WORLD MARITIME DAY 2023 - 29TH SEPTEMBER / உலக கடல்சார் தினம் 2023 - 29 செப்டம்பர்: ஒவ்வொரு ஆண்டும் செப்டம்பர் மாதத்தின் கடைசி வியாழன் உலக கடல்சார் தினமாக கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது. இந்த ஆண்டு, செப்டம்பர் 29, 2022 அன்று இந்த விழா கொண்டாடப்படும். 

இந்த உலகளாவிய தினத்தின் கொண்டாட்டம் முக்கியமாக சர்வதேச கடல்சார் அமைப்பால் அனுசரிக்கப்படுகிறது, இது உலகளாவிய கப்பல் போக்குவரத்தை ஒழுங்குபடுத்துவதற்கு குறிப்பாக பொறுப்பான ஐக்கிய நாடுகளின் நிறுவனமாகும்.

WORLD MARITIME DAY 2023 - 29TH SEPTEMBER / உலக கடல்சார் தினம் 2023 - 29 செப்டம்பர்: உலக கடல்சார் நாள் 2023 தீம் 50 இல் MARPOL - எங்கள் அர்ப்பணிப்பு தொடரும்.

இந்த ஆண்டு தீம், MARPOL இல் 50 - எங்கள் அர்ப்பணிப்பு தொடர்கிறது, சர்வதேச கடல்சார் அமைப்பின் (IMO) நீண்ட வரலாற்றை பிரதிபலிக்கிறது.

WORLD MARITIME DAY 2023 - 29TH SEPTEMBER: Every year, the last Thursday of September is celebrated as World Maritime Day. This year, the occassion will be celebrated on 29 September 2022. The celebration of this global day is mainly observed by the International Maritime Organization, a United Nations agency specifically responsible for regulating worldwide shipping.

Goals of World Maritime Day 

WORLD MARITIME DAY 2023 - 29TH SEPTEMBER: Through the celebration of World Maritime Day, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) seeks to draw the attention of the general public toward the following goals:

• Maritime safety
• Sustainable maritime practices for a greener environment
• Fair working conditions for seafarers engaged in maritime shipping operations

World Maritime Day 2023 Theme

WORLD MARITIME DAY 2023 - 29TH SEPTEMBER: The World Maritime Day 2023 theme is MARPOL at 50 — Our commitment goes on. This year's theme, MARPOL at 50 — Our commitment goes on, reflects the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) long history of protecting the environment from the impact of shipping via a robust regulatory framework and emphasizes its ongoing commitment to this important work. 

The theme spotlights the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL), which covers prevention of pollution of the marine environment by ships from operational or accidental causes.

In addition, the theme aims to promote further dialogue on the next phase of IMO's work to further enhance the sustainable use and protection of our planet and oceans in line with the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). 

These include affordable and clean energy (SDG 7); industry, innovation and infrastructure (SDG 9); climate action and sustainable use of the oceans, seas and marine resources (SDGs 13 and 14); and the importance of partnerships and implementation to achieve these goals (SDG 17).

World Maritime Day History and Significance

WORLD MARITIME DAY 2023 - 29TH SEPTEMBER: World Maritime Day history begins with the establishment of the IMO. In 1948, at the United Nations Geneva Convention, the International Maritime Organization was launched. 

It is an international regulatory body responsible for developing and maintaining a deft framework for shipping. IMO launched World Maritime Day on March 17, 1978, for the first time. After reconsidering the date of the event, the maritime day is now held on the last Thursday of September every year.

The prime objective of the IMCO or IMO remains to focus on issues related to the maritime industry's legal, environmental, safety, technical cooperation, and efficiency. Keeping all these in mind and to raise awareness about the same among the common global citizens, the organization officiated World Maritime Day.
