இந்தியாவின் 100 நகரங்களில் உள்கட்டமைப்பை மேம்படுத்தவும், பொருளாதார வளர்ச்சியை உருவாக்கவும், 2015-ல், 'ஸ்மார்ட் சிட்டி' திட்டம் மத்திய அரசால் தொடங்கப்பட்டது.

ஜனவரி 2016 முதல் ஜூன் 2018 வரை, பல்வேறு சுற்றுப் போட்டிகள் மூலம் 100 நகரங்கள் இந்தத் திட்டத்திற்குத் தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்பட்டன.இந்த நகரங்களின் அனைத்து வளர்ச்சித் திட்டங்களையும் 5 ஆண்டுகளுக்குள் முடிக்க மத்திய அரசு எதிர்பார்க்கிறது.

கடந்த மே மாதம், இந்த நகரங்கள் தங்கள் திட்டப் பணிகளை முடிப்பதற்கான காலக்கெடுவை ஜூன் 2024 வரை நீட்டித்தது மத்திய அரசு.இந்த காலக்கெடு நெருங்கும் போது, திட்ட நிறைவு, நிதி பயன்பாடு மற்றும் பிற அளவுகோல்களின் அடிப்படையில் ‘ஸ்மார்ட் சிட்டி’ நகரங்களின் தரவரிசை வெளியிடப்பட்டுள்ளது.

இந்த முதல் 10 நகரங்களின் பட்டியலில் குஜராத் மாநிலத்தின் சூரத் முதலிடத்தில் உள்ளது.ஆக்ரா (உ.பி.), அகமதாபாத் (குஜராத்), வாரணாசி (உ.பி.), போபால் (எம்.பி.) ஆகியவை முதல் 5 இடங்களில் உள்ளன.

முதல் 10 இடங்களில் உள்ள மற்ற நகரங்கள் துமகுரு (கர்நாடகா), உதய்பூர் (ராஜஸ்தான்), மதுரை (தமிழ்நாடு), கோட்டா (ராஜஸ்தான்), ஷிவமோகா (கர்நாடகா).மாறாக, வடகிழக்கு மாநிலங்களின் யூனியன் பிரதேசங்கள் மற்றும் நகரங்கள் மிகவும் பின்தங்கி உள்ளன.

In 2015, the 'Smart City' program was launched by the central government to improve infrastructure and generate economic growth in 100 cities in India. From January 2016 to June 2018, 100 cities were selected for the scheme through various rounds of competition. The central government expects to complete all the development projects of these cities within 5 years.

Last May, the central government extended the deadline for these cities to complete their projects till June 2024. As this deadline approaches, the rankings of 'smart cities' based on project completion, fund utilization and other criteria are released.

Surat in Gujarat tops the list of top 10 cities.Agra (UP), Ahmedabad (Gujarat), Varanasi (UP) and Bhopal (MP) are in the top 5 places. The other cities in the top 10 are Dumaguru (Karnataka), Udaipur (Rajasthan), Madurai (Tamil Nadu), Kota (Rajasthan), Shivamogga (Karnataka). Conversely, the Union Territories and cities of North-Eastern states lag far behind.
