WORLD TSUNAMI AWARENESS DAY 2023 - 5TH NOVEMBER / உலக சுனாமி விழிப்புணர்வு தினம் 2023 - நவம்பர் 5: வளரும் நாடுகளில் சுனாமி பற்றிய விழிப்புணர்வை ஏற்படுத்த ஒவ்வொரு ஆண்டும் நவம்பர் 5 ஆம் தேதி உலக சுனாமி விழிப்புணர்வு தினம் கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது.
கடந்த சில ஆண்டுகளில் பல உயிர்களை பலிகொண்ட மிக மோசமான இயற்கை பேரழிவுகளில் சுனாமியும் ஒன்று. இந்தப் பேரழிவைப் பற்றிய விழிப்புணர்வைப் பரப்புவதற்கும், வளரும் நாடுகளை அவற்றைச் சிறப்பாகச் சமாளிப்பதற்கும் உதவுவதற்காக, ஐக்கிய நாடுகள் சபை நவம்பர் 5 ஆம் தேதியை உலக சுனாமி விழிப்புணர்வு தினமாக 2015 இல் அறிவித்தது.
சுனாமி ஒரு பிராந்தியத்தை பொருளாதார ரீதியாக அழிக்கக்கூடும் - மரணம், சொத்து அழிவு மற்றும் விவசாய இழப்பு. எனவே, கடலோரப் பகுதிகளைக் கொண்ட வளரும் நாடுகள் சுனாமியை முன்கூட்டியே எதிர்கொள்ளத் தயாராக வேண்டும்.

WORLD TSUNAMI AWARENESS DAY 2023 - 5TH NOVEMBER / உலக சுனாமி விழிப்புணர்வு தினம் 2023 - நவம்பர் 5: 22 டிசம்பர் 2015 அன்று, ஐக்கிய நாடுகள் சபையின் தீர்மானம் 70/203 ஐ ஏற்று, ஆண்டுதோறும் நவம்பர் 5 ஆம் தேதியை சுனாமி விழிப்புணர்வு தினமாகக் கடைப்பிடிக்க அறிவித்தது.
இந்த தேதி ஜப்பானில் நவம்பர் 5, 1854 அன்று நடந்த "இனமுரா-நோ-ஹை" அல்லது அரிசிக் கதிர்களை எரித்த சம்பவத்தை நினைவுபடுத்துகிறது. இந்த நடைமுறையானது அந்த நேரத்தில் ஜப்பானில் வரவிருக்கும் சுனாமிக்கு எதிராக எச்சரிக்கை சமிக்ஞையை அனுப்பியது.

WORLD TSUNAMI AWARENESS DAY 2023 - 5TH NOVEMBER: Every year on 5th November, World Tsunami Awareness Day is celebrated to raise awareness about tsunamis in developing countries. Tsunamis are one of the worst natural disasters that have claimed many lives in the last few years.
To spread awareness about this disaster and help equip developing countries to deal with them better, the United Nations proclaimed 5th November as World Tsunami Awareness Day in 2015.
Tsunamis can wreck a region economically - causing death, destruction of property, and agricultural loss. Therefore, developing countries with coastal areas must prepare to deal with tsunamis beforehand.
World Tsunami Awareness Day is an annual observance made to spread awareness regarding tsunamis and how to prevent the havoc they create. This day is also observed to get international cooperation for developing countries that are prone to tsunamis.
The idea of Tsunami Day is to get the international community working together and to support each other in times of crisis. Tsunami Awareness Day was first celebrated in 2016, after the United Nations officiated the day in 2015.
History of World Tsunami Awareness Day
WORLD TSUNAMI AWARENESS DAY 2023 - 5TH NOVEMBER: On 22nd December 2015, the United Nations adopted the UN Resolution 70/203 and announced 5th November to annually be observed as Tsunami Awareness Day.
This date commemorates an incident that happened in Japan on 5th November 1854, known as “Inamura-no-hi,” or the burning of rice sheaves. This practice resulted in sending a signal of warning against an upcoming tsunami in Japan at the time. Due to early action, people were saved on time during this incident.
World Tsunami Awareness Day is also a part of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030. This framework provides an action-oriented approach to reducing the risk of disasters like a tsunami.
Tsunami Awareness Day Significance
WORLD TSUNAMI AWARENESS DAY 2023 - 5TH NOVEMBER: In the last century, 58 tsunamis have caused mass destruction, taking the lives of more than 260,000 people. This natural disaster has claimed more lives than any other natural disaster in history.
Therefore, observing World Tsunami Awareness Day is important because it provides a global stage to brainstorm ideas for minimizing the impact of tsunamis and offer support to regions that need it. Here is why celebrating Tsunami Day is significant:
- It spreads awareness about sending early warning signs about tsunamis.
- It motivates people to take early action to avoid the loss of human life and property.
- It helps people and countries garner support to help in times of crisis.
World Tsunami Awareness Day 2023 Theme
WORLD TSUNAMI AWARENESS DAY 2023 - 5TH NOVEMBER: Each year on Tsunami Awareness Day, the United Nations sets a theme for the observance. The theme is centered around dealing with tsunamis better and is set to send a message to all.
The purpose of World Tsunami Awareness Day (WTAD) is to raise awareness about reducing tsunami-related risks and enhance community preparedness.
World Tsunami Awareness Day 2023 Theme will mirror the theme of the International Day of Disaster Reduction: fighting inequality for a resilient future.
Activities will explore the reciprocal relationship between tsunamis and inequality: how inequality makes tsunamis more dangerous for certain populations and how the aftermath of a tsunami can drive vulnerable people further into poverty and exacerbate inequality.
WTAD 2023 activities will focus on raising awareness about the underlying disaster risk drivers – poverty, inequality and vulnerability – that make tsunamis more deadly for those most at risk.
