TOP 20 MOST POLLUTED CITIES IN WORLD 2024 / உலகின் டாப் 20 மாசுபட்ட நகரங்களின் பட்டியல் 2024: சுவிஸ் காற்று தர தொழில்நுட்ப நிறுவனமான IQAir இன் உலக காற்று தர அறிக்கை 2024, உலகளவில் டெல்லி மிகவும் மாசுபட்ட தலைநகராக தொடர்கிறது என்றும், 2023ல் மூன்றாவது இடத்தில் இருந்த இந்தியா 2024ல் உலகின் ஐந்தாவது மாசுபட்ட நாடாக குறைந்துள்ளது என்றும் தெரிவித்துள்ளது.
இந்தியாவில் PM2.5 செறிவு 2024 இல் 7 சதவீதம் குறைந்துள்ளதாகவும், சராசரியாக ஒரு கன மீட்டருக்கு 50.6 மைக்ரோகிராம் என்றும், 2023 இல் ஒரு கன மீட்டருக்கு 54.4 மைக்ரோகிராம் என்றும் அறிக்கை கூறியுள்ளது.
இருப்பினும், உலகின் மிகவும் மாசுபட்ட 10 நகரங்களில் 6 இந்தியாவில் உள்ளது.
இதில், டெல்லி தொடர்ந்து அதிக மாசு அளவைப் பதிவு செய்துள்ளது.
ஆண்டு சராசரி PM2.5 செறிவு ஒரு கன மீட்டருக்கு 91.6 மைக்ரோகிராம், 2023 இல் ஒரு கன மீட்டருக்கு 92.7 மைக்ரோகிராம் என்பதிலிருந்து கிட்டத்தட்ட மாறாமல் அப்படியே உள்ளது.

TOP 20 MOST POLLUTED CITIES IN WORLD 2024 / உலகின் டாப் 20 மாசுபட்ட நகரங்களின் பட்டியல் 2024: உலகின் முதல் 20 மாசுபட்ட நகரங்களில் உள்ள 13 இந்திய நகரங்கள் பைர்னிஹாட், டெல்லி, முல்லன்பூர் (பஞ்சாப்), ஃபரிதாபாத், லோனி, டெல்லி, குருகிராம், கங்காநகர், கிரேட்டர் நொய்டா, பிவாடி, முசாபர்நகர், ஹனுமன்கர் மற்றும் நொய்டா ஆகும்.
ஒட்டுமொத்தமாக, இந்திய நகரங்களில் 35 சதவீதம் வருடாந்திர PM2.5 அளவுகள் WHO வரம்பான ஒரு கன மீட்டருக்கு 5 மைக்ரோகிராம் என்பதை விட 10 மடங்கு அதிகமாக இருப்பதாக கூறப்படுகிறது.

TOP 20 MOST POLLUTED CITIES IN WORLD 2024: The World Air Quality Report 2024 by Swiss air quality technology company IQAir has revealed that Delhi continues to be the most polluted capital city globally, while India has dropped from third place in 2023 to become the fifth most polluted country in the world in 2024.
The PM2.5 concentration in India has declined by 7 per cent in 2024, to an average of 50.6 micrograms per cubic metre, compared to 54.4 micrograms per cubic metre in 2023, the report said. However, India still has 6 of the world's 10 most polluted cities.
Of these, Delhi continues to record the highest pollution levels. The annual average PM2.5 concentration is 91.6 micrograms per cubic metre, almost unchanged from 92.7 micrograms per cubic metre in 2023.

TOP 20 MOST POLLUTED CITIES IN WORLD 2024: The 13 Indian cities in the world's top 20 most polluted cities are Byrnihat, Delhi, Mullanpur (Punjab), Faridabad, Loni, Delhi, Gurugram, Ganganagar, Greater Noida, Bhiwadi, Muzaffarnagar, Hanumangarh and Noida.
Overall, 35 percent of Indian cities are reported to have annual PM2.5 levels that are more than 10 times higher than the WHO limit of 5 micrograms per cubic meter. Air pollution has emerged as a serious health hazard in India.
Problems
TOP 20 MOST POLLUTED CITIES IN WORLD 2024: PM2.5 refers to tiny particles of air pollution that are less than 2.5 microns in size. They enter the lungs and bloodstream and can lead to respiratory problems, heart disease and even cancer. These include vehicle exhaust, industrial emissions and burning of wood or crop residues.
Also, strict enforcement of emission laws is crucial. Factories and construction sites should comply with regulations and install equipment to reduce emissions instead of taking shortcuts, said the former Director General of the Indian Council of Medical Research.
