5th APRIL - NATIONAL MARITIME DAY 2024 / தேசிய கடல்சார் தினம் 2024: வரலாறு தொடங்கிய காலம் முதல் இன்று வரை இந்திய பெருங்கடலின் முக்கிய ஆளுமையாக இந்தியா தான் இருந்து வருகிறது. அதனால் அதன் கடல் சார் வணிகத்தை கொண்டாடும் வகையில் ஆண்டுதோறும் ஏப்ரல் 5 அன்று தேசிய கடல்சார் தினம் கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது.

ஒவ்வொரு ஆண்டும் மார்ச் 30 அன்று தொடங்கும் தேசிய கடல் வாரத்தின் கடைசி நாளில் தேசிய கடல்சார் தினம் (national maritime day) அனுசரிக்கப்படுகிறது.

இது இந்தியாவின் வளமான கடல்சார் வரலாற்றைக் கொண்டாடுகிறது. 2023 ஆண்டு கொண்டாட்டம் என்பது கடல் சார் தினம் தொடங்கிய 60 வது ஆண்டு நிறைவைக் குறிக்கிறது.

5th APRIL - NATIONAL MARITIME DAY 2024 / தேசிய கடல்சார் தினம் 2024: இந்த ஆண்டுக்கான தேசிய கடல்சார் தினத்தின் தீம் 'கப்பலில் அம்ரித் கால்' என அறிவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. இது விடுதலைக்கு பிறகான கடல் சார் வணிகத்தின் பொன்விழாவைக் குறிப்பிடுகிறது.

இது இந்திய சுதந்திரத்தின் 75 ஆண்டுகள் நிறைவடைந்த காலத்தில் வருவதால், 75-100 ஆண்டுகள் வரையான காலத்தை குறிக்கும் அம்ரித் கால் என்ற வார்த்தையால் அழைக்கப்படுகிறது.

5th APRIL - NATIONAL MARITIME DAY 2024: India has been the dominant figure in the Indian Ocean since the beginning of history till today. Hence National Maritime Day is celebrated on 5th April every year to celebrate its maritime business.

National Maritime Day is observed on the last day of National Maritime Week which starts on March 30 every year. It celebrates India's rich maritime history. The 2023 celebration marks the 60th anniversary of the inception of Oceans Day.

National Maritime Day 2023: Theme

5th APRIL - NATIONAL MARITIME DAY 2024: The theme of this year's National Maritime Day has been announced as 'Amrit Kaal on board'. It marks the golden age of maritime trade after independence. As it falls on the 75th anniversary of India's independence, it is called Amrit Kaal, which refers to a period of 75-100 years.

History

5th APRIL - NATIONAL MARITIME DAY 2024: Before British and Mughal rule, India was a major naval nation. The Rig Vedas mention Indian ships and how trade was conducted with West Asia. Sangha literature tells about trade in the East Asian region, the Roman Empire. The Gangarite Empire, Chola Empire and Maurya Empire were powerful maritime civilizations in ancient India.

But after the arrival of the British it was completely suppressed. Indians were prohibited from sailing alone. But even then, in 1912, VUC left the steamer. But National Maritime Day was celebrated in 1919 by the Scindia Steam Navigation Co. from Mumbai to London. Commemorates the maiden voyage of Ltd.'s first Indian steamship "SS Loyalty". It is the second oldest shipping company in India and belongs to the Scindia dynasty of Gwalior.

It was an important step in India's shipping history when sea routes were controlled by the British. Since then, 5th April was celebrated for the first time in 1964 to inform and create awareness among people about intercontinental trade and economy around the world.

A dry dock discovered in Gujarat's Lothal, dating back to 2400 BC, is believed to be the oldest in the world. Later, the Marathas led by Chhatrapati Shivaji became a formidable naval force against the British and the Portuguese for more than 40 years.

The Indian Maritime Sector

5th APRIL - NATIONAL MARITIME DAY 2024: Law has to play a very crucial role in the augmentation and realisation of true potential of the Indian maritime sector.

India is augmenting its marine capacity by leaps and bounds, and in order to realise her true potential, the government has floated Maritime India Vision (MIV) 2030 by developing infrastructure and facilities.

Here are some of the glowing achievements of Indian maritime sector. 

• Indian ports Two of the Indian ports have the distinction of featuring in the list of the top 40 global container ports. The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) has been ranked at 33rd spot and Mundra Port ranks as the 37 best international shipping port out of the best 40 international shipping ports for containers. Of the total cargo handed at Indian ports, over 54 per cent is handled at the country’s 12 major ports.
• Inland water transport: India has also improved the cargo handled by inland water transport. Earlier, inland water transport accounted for .5 per cent of cargo traffic in India. The inland water transport has scaled up its contribution in handling of cargo from to 2 per cent.
• Shipping: India’s achievement in the shipping sector has also been extremely impressive. Presently, the country ranks second in ship recycling and 21st in ship building. India also finds herself within the first five countries supplying trained manpower.
