They excavate burrows for other organisms to live in and maintain beaches by eating dead fish that often wash up on the shoreline.
They help maintain ecological equilibrium, so it's critical to protect these peaceful creatures. World Turtle Day is celebrated to honour and discuss Turtles and tortoises. It is celebrated on May 23.
World Turtle Day History
23rd MAY - WORLD TURTLE DAY 2023: World Turtle Day was first celebrated in 2002 by American Tortoise Rescue to increase awareness of the suffering and declining numbers of these species due to human involvement and environmental risks.
On International Turtle Day, educational institutions, rescue facilities, and nature enthusiasts all join together to discover more about these animals and vow to show support for their rescue.
Marshall Thompson and Susan Tellem founded American Tortoise Rescue. They hold fundraising events and continuously try to raise notice about the plight of these shelled creatures.
The duo is recognised for treating all creatures, especially reptiles, with care. Since its inception in 1990, American Tortoise Rescue has helped over 4,000 turtles, and tortoises find new homes.
World Turtle Day Significance

It is very easy to mix up a turtle and a tortoise. The fundamental comparison between these two is that turtles can live on both land and water, whereas tortoises can only live on land.

Turtles are generally found in the sea, whereas tortoises live in lush jungles and grasses.
