Given the constraints of time, many may find it challenging to frequent art galleries regularly. Hence, this annual observance serves as a timely reminder to indulge in the simple pleasure of experiencing the world’s beauty.
Furthermore, World Art Day acts as a catalyst for sharing knowledge, igniting curiosity, and fostering engaging conversations among individuals.
World Art Day, established during UNESCO’s 40th General Conference in 2019, is a commemoration aimed at fostering the growth, dissemination, and appreciation of art worldwide.
History of World Art Day
15TH APRIL - WORLD ART DAY 2024: In order to promote awareness of creative activity worldwide, the first World Art Day was held on April 15th 2012. A proposal was put forward by the IAA to declare April 15 as World Art Day.The proposal was sponsored by Bedri Baykam of Turkey and co-signed by Rosa Maria Burillo Velasco of Mexico, Anne Pourny of France, Anders Liden of Sweden, Kan Irie of Japan, and many others. Afterwards, it was accepted unanimously by the United Nations General Assembly.
The date was decided in honor of the birthday of Leonardo da Vinci. Leonardo Da Vinci was considered as a symbol of multiculturalism, world peace, freedom of expression, brotherhood, tolerance and other important aspect of life that he reflected through his art.
Significance of World Art Day
15TH APRIL - WORLD ART DAY 2024: Art can connect and unite people in many ways and plays a major role in promoting communication and sharing knowledge among people of different heritages. The World Art Day is celebrated to nurture creativity and innovation in the artists all over the globe and to promote unity in cultural diversity.Art has many other qualities as well and to provide an environment where artists and artistic freedom are promoted and protected, the World Art Day is observed every year on 15 April.
The day also promotes awareness about the variety that exists in artistic expressions and highlight the contribution made by various artists towards sustainable development of the society.
